October 9, 2014 – CDI College now offers the Personal Support Worker program in part-time as well! Starting this fall, interested students can study to become a personal support worker with the choice of full-time study (24 weeks) or part-time (32 weeks). The part-time option will be available at five Ontario campuses: Ajax, Hamilton, Mississauga, North York, and Scarborough.Personal support workers are responsible for care of clients that often takes place in long-term care facilities, residential and retirement homes, adult and child daycare centres, and hospices. These healthcare professionals possess a strong work ethic and ensure that the physical and emotional needs of clients are met. Some of their regular tasks include assisting with mobility and personal hygiene, meal and medication preparation, and providing support and care planning.
Students enrolled in the program will study the musculoskeletal system, cognitive impairment, and mental health issues. They will learn to recognize unsafe situations, how to prevent injury to clients, and recognize signs of family abuse and the steps required if abuse is suspected.
