Massage therapists in Ontario can earn up to $40/hr*. These healthcare professionals are highly skilled in providing therapeutic treatments to help patients reduce muscle tension and chronic pain, relieve stress, improve joint mobility and circulation, and many other health conditions.
Often working in chiropractic, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy clinics; spas; resorts; fitness and sports clubs; or are self-employed, these healthcare professionals can enjoy the benefits of a flexible work schedule while still earning a competitive wage. According to a recent interview in The Globe and Mail with Andrew Lewarne, the executive director of the Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of Ontario (RMTAO), “most full-time massage therapists in Ontario earn about $60,000 to $72,000.”
Job prospects for massage therapists are “very good,” according to Lewarne. As the number of people seeking alternative methods to improving and maintaining their health increases, so must the demand. From the influx of clients to expansion demands, the Government of Canada expects close to 60,000 job openings in this occupation until 2022.
Graduates of the program are also eligible to sit the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario’s (CMTO) certification examination in both components – Multiple Choice Questionnaire (MCQ) and Objectively Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) – to obtain their registration certification and become a registered massage therapist.
