Become a versatile member of an animal care team in just 49 weeks
Richmond, BC – January 10, 2014 – With the pet care industry growing, there is an increased demand for well-trained animal care professionals, including veterinary assistants. Those looking to train for a career working with animals can turn to the new Veterinary Assistant program at CDI College in Richmond.
“Veterinary assistants are an integral part of any animal care team,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, VP of Marketing for CDI College. “They must be knowledgeable, responsive and versatile on the job. The Veterinary Assistant program trains students to provide clinical and administrative services in a range of animal care facilities.”
Students in the Veterinary Assistant program develop the fundamental knowledge and skill set needed to work in the field of animal care in just 49 weeks. They study anatomy, physiology, veterinary medical terminology, animal husbandry, nutrition and pharmacology. They also learn about animal nursing, clinical care, diagnostic imaging and surgical preparation and assisting. Along with the clinical portion of the program, students learn the administrative duties involved with a veterinary practice, including office procedures, billing practices, marketing and client communications.
Prior to graduation, students can apply and demonstrate their skills and knowledge in a three-week practicum placement and gain relevant, hands-on experience on the job. As graduates they’ll be prepared for employment opportunities in animal care facilities, shelters, zoos and more.
