Hands-on training at CDI is the first step to career in Resident Care
Abbotsford, BC - March 18, 2010 - Over the past several years, demand for Health Care Assistants (HCAs) has increased as the population ages. HCAs have an important role in the health promotion of their patients as they are often the ones who spend the most time with them. At most facilities, Health Care Assistants are employed over a 24 hour period, enabling them to see their patients first thing in the morning, throughout the day, and in the middle of the night. Being this closely involved with their patients means HCAs are involved in many of the patient's activities including:
- Dressing
- Bathing
- Feeding
- Toileting
- Vital signs
- Catheter care
- Assist with walking
- Makes beds, changes bed linens
- Repositioning patients
- Monitor patient safety
- Documentation
- Range of motion exercises
Not only do Health Care Assistants provide for the patients physical well being, but they also spend a great deal of time providing for their emotional and spiritual well being.
If you can see yourself in a position that provides personal satisfaction, job security, great benefits and much more than a Health Care Assistant career may be perfect for you! HCAs can complete their training in less than a year and also participate in clinical training during mandatory practicums.
This training is extremely valuable, though is just the beginning of the experiences HCA's gain from working within the health care system. The combination of hands on training in college, and life experience in the field, give Health Care Assistants the tools to handle multidimensional patients within the health care system.
