Surrey, BC – November 26, 2012 – All Dental Assisting and Intra Oral Dental Assistant graduates at CDI College in Burnaby, Surrey and Winnipeg have passed the National Dental Assisting Examination Board (NDAEB) exam. The grads also scored higher than the national average for first-time exam writers, with the Burnaby class beating the average score by more than 9%.
The NDAEB exam ensures that candidates meet the national standards in knowledge and skill required by provincial and territorial regulatory authorities for recognition as dental assistants. Dental Assisting and Intra Oral Dental Assistant grads from CDI College have consistently obtained between 97-100% pass rates on the exam since the program’s inception in 2007. Success on the exam is the first step for grads to obtain their Certified Dental Assistant license in BC.
“These passing rates say a lot about the dedication and commitment of the Dental graduates from all campuses,” says Agnes Yngson, Dental Department Head at CDI College in Burnaby. “What I am personally proud of is that our students not only score higher on the national passing rate but also on the national first time takers' average score!”
Both the Dental Assisting and the Intra Oral Dental Assistant programs give students comprehensive hands-on training that covers the essential components of the profession. Along with dental care, oral pathology and radiography, students also learn to assist dentists during treatments and perform infection control. They also learn about maintenance of patient records, practice management and other dental office duties. Students participate in outside practical placements in a private practice with a dentist, as well.
In addition to the curriculum, Dental Assisting students in BC also have the opportunity to participate in Open Wide Community Clinic Day. The volunteer-based program pairs CDI Dental Assisting students with dentists from UBC to provide free dental care to low-income residents. Students gain hands-on experience with basic pain relief procedures, restorative dentistry, X-rays and general dental hygiene.
CDI College’s Dental Assisting program is the only private dental assisting program in BC to be accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC). Graduates are only required to write the theory exam needed for licensing.
