Edmonton, AB – May 5, 2015 – CDI College’s Edmonton North campus is hosting its 3rd Annual Charity Massage-a-Thon event. This year, all proceeds will be donated to "A Safe Place," a local shelter dedicated to assisting abused women and children for over 30 years.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:

CDI College’s Massage Therapy students will be giving away 20-minute massages for a minimum donation of $10. Visitors can also grab a bite at the barbeque lunch and bake sale while they browse the selection of silent auction items. An official cheque presentation will be held the following Tuesday, June 9th at 12:15pm at the Edmonton North campus.

Originally conceived by the Massage Therapy class three years ago, the tradition has continued into its third season and is has attracted many charitable sponsors around the community who, over the years, have generously donated items to support the event. CDI College’s Massage Therapy students have a history of providing their professional services to other charitable organizations. In 2013, the 1st Annual Massage-a-Thon, students raised an astounding $7,500 for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and in 2014, $8,000 for the Kids Kottage Foundation.

From food sponsors such as Starbucks, T & T Supermarket, Save-On-Foods, Athena Donair, Paradiso Pastries, and Confetti Sweets to silent auction sponsors like Earls Kitchen + Bar, Sweet Momma, Sherwood Ford, and Muscle Elements, CDI College’s 3rd Annual Charity Massage-a-Thon has received a tremendous amount of support and has even caught the attention of former hockey players Marty McSorley and Kyle Rossiter. Former Edmonton Oilers player Marty McSorley has donated a signed jersey, available at the silent auction, while former Florida Panthers player Kyle Rossiter will be making an appearance to show his support for the cause.

Every year, over 700 abused women and children seek assistance from shelters like "A Safe Place" but many are turned away due to lack of funding or resources. According to the Transition Home Survey conducted by the Government of Canada in 2012, over 500 battered women and children are turned away from shelters on any given night. With over 80% of domestic violence originating from a male partner, it is imperative that victims have a secure and protected place they can depend on to feel safe.
