New accreditation will save graduates $1,200 in exam fees

The Dental Assisting program at CDI College is now accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) in both Calgary and Edmonton.

“Accreditation is the expected standard in order to run a successful Dental Assisting program in Alberta,” said April Slotsve, CDI College Dental Assisting Program Head. “Getting accredited helps CDI College gain respect in the dental industry and it is one of the first questions a potential employer asks.”

With the new accreditation, CDI College Dental Assisting graduates are no longer required to take the National Clinical Evaluation – saving each student $1,200.

“Now that we are accredited, the requirements from CDAC are already satisfied by the program itself,” she said. “This gives credibility to the program as potential students check to see which schools meet the national standard for dental assisting education.”

The new accredited status means CDI College Dental Assistant graduates can receive a provisional licence to work as a dental assistant, until they received their professional certification from the National Dental Assisting Examination Board (NDAEB).

“This way the student isn’t having to wait for months between graduating, writing the board exam, as well as performing the National Clinical Evaluation,” Slotsve said. “Our students will now be able to enter the workforce in a timelier manner.”
